Rolex is a Swiss luxury watch manufacturer based in Geneva, Switzerland. It was originally founded by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis in London, England in 1905. Rolex offers an assortment of Classic and Professional luxury timepieces. Some of their most popular models include the Submariner, Datejust, Air King, and GMT Master. With over a hundred years of experience, Rolex’s lineup has expanded with various models designed for different tastes and purposes. In this blog, we will be delving deeper into Rolex’s serial numbers and why they are important. We want to provide you with all the knowledge you need before purchasing a Pre- Owned Luxury Swiss timepiece by Rolex at King Jewelers!
When Rolex was launched in 1927 they used serial numbers to keep track of their watches. All Rolex Watches have two engravings on the metal of its case, the reference number and the serial number. The serial number is a 4-8 digits number engraved on every Rolex watch, used to determine its production date and its unique characteristics. For Rolex’s manufactured from 1927 – 2004 the serial number can be found in between the lugs on the 6 o’clock marker. Rolex’s produced after 2005 have a serial number located on the inside of the watch in between the dial and the crystal. In 2010, Rolex started producing randomized and unique serial numbers, making it harder to determine the exact year it was manufactured. Locate the Rolex serial number and use the charts below to discover your Rolex’s production date!
