SIHH 2012 Spotlight: Jaeger-LeCoultre Deep Sea Vintage Chronograph

Jan 17, 2012

Yesterday the 2012 Salon International de la Haute Horologie (SIHH) started off with a bang in Geneva. SIHH is where all the biggest and most innovative names in watch design show off their latest timepiece creations, often the result of years of development and research. This is the 22nd year of the SIHH and watch-making giants such as Cartier, IWC, Montblanc, and Roger Dubuis will be exhibiting.

Jaeger-LeCoultre, another one of this year’s exhibitors, is the known king of retro reinvention. At last year’s SIHH Jaeger-LeCoultre presented two such designs, the Tribute to 1931 Reverso and the Tribute to the Memovox Deep Sea Watch. This year they are presenting another beautiful take on the Deep Sea watch known as the Deep Sea Vintage Chronograph.

The style is influenced from the original European version of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Deep Sea watch released in 1959, but furnished with the Caliber 751G mechanical chronograph movement, a movement known for its accuracy. Vintage details from the original watch include the case back engraved with the frogman illustration surrounded by bubbles, the plexiglass crystal, and the vintage markers with orange Superluminova. However, the case is a larger 40.5 mm like last year’s Deep Sea Tribute which is larger than the original watch’s 39mm.
