Cartier has announced the return of one of its most unmistakable designs, the Cartier Crash watch. Looking like something straight out of a Salvador Dali painting, this watch made its first debut in 1967 at Cartier in London. This year at SIHH the Crash watch will finally be released with a tear-drop link bracelet, either in solid gold or pave set with diamonds.
The unusual 38.5mm x 25.5 mm case will be made of either 18 karat rose or white gold and will feature a pave diamond bezel. It is said that the design of the Crash watch came about when the vice president Jean-Jacques Cartier of Cartier London was in a serious car crash. The oval-shaped Cartier Bagnoire Alongee melted onto the vice president’s wrist during the accident resulting in the strange warped shape of the case.
