The Brand New Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Gyrotourbillon Watch

May 09, 2012

Around 2005 Jaeger-LeCoultre introduced their first gyrotourbillon. This was during the time period when tourbillon movements were increasingly popular and endless watch brands were giving a stab at their version of tourbillons in their own pieces.

The tourbillon (“whirlwind” in French) is one of the most fascinating complications in the world. Originally developed in the 18th century by a French watchmaker named Abraham-Louis Breguet. The tourbillon is a extremely complicated that works with against the effects of gravity by the balance wheel and escape lever and wheel condensed in a cage which rotates a full 360 degree revolution around itself.

Not only is this complication highly accurate and consistent it is also incredibly difficult to create a precise tourbillon. Even though various brands set out to create their tourbillon, it is a very tough complication to master and should be probably be left for the top few brands in the world to craft.

Jaeger-LeCoultre recently released its gyrotourbillon II amongst its most popular model, the Reverso. The Reverso is a timeless style that JLC has made its prominent piece. The gyrotourbillon that JLC produces uses cylindrical balance wheels versus flat ones and gives their tourbillon a gyroscope movement. The movement used in this astonishing piece is the calibre 174 movement using of course the gyrotourbillon. Also embraces a 50 hour time reserve indicator and also displays a 24 hour dial. All of these incredibly elaborate movement has been placed inside an all platinum case that is a size of 36mm wide and 55mm tall. The dial is fully skeletonized and the back case displays all the of the intricate and beautiful movements.

Expected to only have produced 75 pieces and cost over $300,000 this is truly a collectors item with a style that will never fade. This piece is surely an investment item with the price only expected to climb with time.
