What to Wear for the Masters Golf Tournament

Apr 08, 2011

All the golf world is abuzz with talk of the Masters Golf Tournament, which started this year on Wednesday, April 6th and will run until Sunday, April 10th. This event, which takes place every year at the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, is the first of four major professional golf championships. If you were lucky enough to score tickets to this year’s tournament, you may be wondering what proper golf spectator attire may be if this is your first time attending such an event.

Spectator attire at golf events is generally of a casual or preppy nature and many spectators dress in golf attire out of respect for the sport and the players. The preppy style is clean-cut, streamlined, and simple. For ladies, clothes consist of collared polo shirts in solid colors or uniform patterns like plaid or stripes. Due to the warmer weather in Georgia this time of year, most ladies will wear skorts, skirts with attached shorts underneath, long khaki shorts, or capri pants. Denim will look out of place on the golf course.

In regards to accessories, think simple classic pieces like pearls. Diamonds are common to wear as a simple pair of studs or a diamond solitaire pendant. Gold chains and hoops are also commonly seen in the preppy style and pendants with simple shapes or outlines such as hearts or hoops. Roberto Coin is an excellent go-to choice for simple understated pendants, like pieces from the Tiny Treasures collection.

Of course, no sporting event look is complete without a watch. TAG Heuer, a brand known for its performance watches, recently signed on top female golfer Suzann Pettersen as their latest TAG Heuer brand ambassador and has had Tiger Woods as one of their ambassadors in the past. TAG Heuer’s Link collection is currently a favorite among women as an elegantly designed sports watch.
