Louis Erard x Vianney Halter Futur Antérieur: Two Movements, Two Portholes, One Slim Watch
King Jewelers Watch Journal · New Release
Two movements, two portholes and one remarkably slim case: Louis Erard and Vianney Halter bring the spirit of the legendary Antiqua to a 38 mm watch.

Louis Erard has built its recent reputation on collaborations with some of the most original minds in independent watchmaking. Few of those partnerships carry as much weight as its work with Vianney Halter, the French-born independent whose 1998 Antiqua perpetual calendar, with its riveted portholes and retro-futurist case, remains one of the most recognizable designs of modern horology.
The new Louis Erard x Vianney Halter Futur Antérieur is their third collaboration and the most ambitious yet. Rather than placing a new dial on an existing Louis Erard case, the two designed this watch from scratch: two automatic movements side by side, each beneath its own riveted porthole, in a steel case just 38 mm wide and 8.85 mm thick. It comes in two versions, Gold and Silver, each limited to 178 pieces, plus a Duo Set of both watches limited to 78 sets.
What Is the Louis Erard x Vianney Halter Futur Antérieur?
The Futur Antérieur is a time-only watch that splits its display across two separate dials. The upper-left porthole shows the seconds; the lower-right porthole shows the hours and minutes. Each dial is driven by its own Sellita SW100 automatic movement and has its own riveted crown, at 9 o'clock for the seconds and at 3 o'clock for the time.
Around them, a brushed steel case carries two raised bezels, each set with twelve polished yellow-gilt rivets, and two curved nameplates engraved Louis Erard and Vianney Halter. The name, French for the "future perfect" tense, nods to Halter's own Futur Antérieur collection and to the idea of a future imagined from the past, which has always been at the heart of his work.

Why Does the Futur Antérieur Have Two Movements?
Two movements in one case usually means a dual-time watch. Not here. Both movements run independently but together tell a single time: one is dedicated entirely to the seconds, the other to the hours and minutes. Louis Erard has explained that keeping two standard movements in step as a second time zone would not be practical, as they would drift apart over a matter of days. Splitting one time display across two movements instead lets the watch recreate the Antiqua's multiple portholes honestly, with a real mechanism beneath each one.
The surprise is the thickness. Fitting two automatic calibers side by side, rather than stacking complications, keeps the case at 8.85 mm, slimmer than many conventional three-hand watches. At 38 mm across and 44 mm long, it wears like a dress watch despite its sculptural profile.

How Does It Connect to Vianney Halter's Antiqua?
Vianney Halter unveiled the Antiqua prototype at the Basel watch fair in 1998. A perpetual calendar housed in a case of raised, riveted portholes, it looked like nothing else at the time, half Jules Verne, half industrial instrument, and it helped define the modern independent watchmaking movement.
Louis Erard first worked with Halter on a Régulateur in 2020, then returned in 2024 with Le Régulateur II, which borrowed the Antiqua's riveted aesthetic. The Futur Antérieur goes further: its chamfered case and bezels, gilt rivets and stepped dials are the closest any Louis Erard has come to the Antiqua's look and feel, while the hand-engraved, lacquer-filled finishing of Halter's own pieces remains his alone.

Gold or Silver: Which Futur Antérieur Should You Choose?
Both versions share the same case, movements and dimensions. The Gold pairs warm yellow-gilt dials with black ostrich leather for a vintage, almost instrument-panel feel. The Silver has cooler silver-toned dials on blue ostrich leather and reads slightly more contemporary. For collectors who cannot choose, the Duo Set presents both watches together in a wooden box, limited to 78 sets.
