Roger Dubuis was founded in 1995 by watchmaker Roger Dubuis, then 57 years old, in partnership with Portuguese-born entrepreneur and designer Carlos Dias. Dubuis had spent nine years at Longines before joining Patek Philippe, where he worked for 14 years developing high-complication movements, before striking out on his own in 1980. His path crossed with Dias's in Geneva, and together they founded the company in 1995, initially producing classically styled watches rooted in traditional Geneva watchmaking, including the Sympathie and Hommage collections. In 2001, the brand began construction of its own manufacture in Meyrin, Geneva, inaugurated the following year, reflecting Dias's commitment to producing components almost entirely in-house. In 2005, Roger Dubuis launched its defining collection, Excalibur — reportedly named after a medieval sword once gifted to Carlos Dias — marking the brand's shift toward a bolder, more contemporary identity. By this time, nearly every Roger Dubuis watch carried the Poinçon de Genève, the historic Geneva Seal certifying superlative craftsmanship, a distinction the brand maintains on all of its watches to this day. Roger Dubuis joined the Richemont Group in 2008, with Richemont acquiring full ownership in 2016. Founder Roger Dubuis passed away in October 2017, having built a legacy that continues to shape the Maison's watchmakers today, including recent high-profile collaborations with Lamborghini Squadra Corse and Pirelli that carry his spirit of technical daring forward.
