Atelier Wen was founded in 2018 by Robin Tallendier and Wilfried Buiron, two Frenchmen who developed a shared appreciation for Chinese culture while studying and living in China. The brand was created with a clear mission: to challenge outdated perceptions of Chinese watchmaking and showcase the country's growing technical and artistic capabilities.

The brand first gained attention with the Porcelain Odyssey collection, which introduced hand-painted porcelain dials and design details inspired by Chinese decorative arts. Those early watches helped establish Atelier Wen as more than a microbrand; they positioned it as a serious independent watchmaker with a specific cultural point of view.
