Oris Information and FAQ
About Oris Watches
Deeply rooted in Hölstein, Switzerland. Oris strives to make the world a little brighter and bring joy. That’s why the people who come together at our factory often share more than just their passion for watches. They’re united by the search for new paths, their commitment to sustainability and their belief in the strength of community.
More than 120 years have passed since Oris was founded by two independent, entrepreneurial watchmakers. Today, Oris is proudly independent and only makes watches with mechanical movements, many of them created in-house. Like the Calibre 400 series, which promises a five-day power reserve, anti-magnetism, and a 10-year warranty and 10-year reccomended service intervals.
History of Oris
Oris was founded on June 1, 1904, when Paul Cattin and Georges Christian purchased the recently closed Lohner & Co. watch factory in Hölstein, Switzerland, naming their new company after a nearby brook. The business grew quickly, becoming Hölstein's largest employer by 1911 with over 300 workers, and expanded into wristwatches by the late 1920s. Oris built a strong reputation through the mid-20th century, developing its own movements and tools and running its own apprenticeship program — by the late 1960s, it was one of the ten largest watch companies in the world. Like many Swiss watchmakers, Oris lost its independence during the industry's consolidation in the Quartz Crisis of the 1970s. In the early 1980s, a management buyout restored Oris as an independent company, and the brand made a defining decision at that time: to focus exclusively on mechanical watchmaking going forward. The brand introduced its now-signature red rotor in 2002, celebrated its centennial in 2004, and in 2014 released its first in-house-developed movement in 35 years, the Calibre 110, with a 10-day power reserve. That momentum culminated in 2020 with the Calibre 400, an in-house automatic movement offering a 5-day power reserve, exceptional anti-magnetic resistance, and an industry-leading 10-year warranty. Today, Oris remains one of the few major Swiss watch brands still fully independent, continuing to build mechanical watches in Hölstein, the same town where it began over 120 years ago.
Oris Manufacturer Warranty
Oris watches include a standard 2-year warranty covering manufacturing defects, with 3 years, 5 years or 10 years extensions available through MyOris registration. This warranty excludes normal wear, damage from misuse or unauthorized repairs, and requires purchase from an authorized dealer like King Jewelers.
